Patrick Mahomes has the potential to become one of, if not the most, decorated NFL athletes of all time. That’s the view of many NFL analysts, that believe the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has the attributes to surpass the achievements of the likes of the newly-retired Tom Brady. Mahomes signed a ten-year contract extension with the Chiefs in 2020, 12 months after being part of Kansas City’s first Super Bowl triumph in half a century.

In the Super Bowl LIV, Mahomes was not only part of the winning team but he was also named Super Bowl LIV MVP. This was an incredible feat in only his second season in the NFL. In the 2022-23 NFL season, Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs franchise are back at the top table of the NFL competing for another Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl LIIV against Philadelphia Eagles.

According to the latest Bodog Super Bowl odds, it looks like a much tighter contest awaits than the Chiefs’ 31-20 Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. In fact, the sportsbooks are struggling to separate the Chiefs and the Eagles, with just a 1.5-point spread offered in the Eagles’ favour pre-match.

Mahomes’ winning diet plan uncovered

Mahomes revealed that a typical day involves four, or even five meals. He’ll start with breakfast, then lunch and then spread out two or three dinners to ensure he’s “not eating too much at any one time”. Despite his desire to divide his evening meal into two or three sittings, he does not count his calorie intake. However, that’s largely due to the fact he knows everything he eats is “good food”. He said chicken and salmon are staples in his evening meals, as is ketchup, which he adores to augment most of his dishes.

Mahomes, now aged 27, has developed significantly both from a technical and physical perspective in the six seasons as a Chiefs athlete. A lot of that is down to his intense workout plan and dietary regime. According to a story in Men’s Journal, Mahomes has relied on the fitness and nutrition advice of performance coach, Bobby Stroupe, since the fourth grade. His long-term partner, Brittany Matthews, is also a fitness fanatic who has helped Mahomes to develop a strict but sustainable diet.

Mahomes has scrapped almost all kinds of fast food from his diet, although he’s no stranger to the barbecue restaurants of Kansas City, with prime ribs and barbecue still something of a treat between games and workouts.

Although Mahomes rarely shares his personal fitness regime, he did join his performance coach Bobby Stroupe to offer insight into his workout plan in Men’s Health. Here’s what he gets up to in the gym with the medicine balls:

  • Three repetitions of medicine ball throws (with sit-ups)
  • Two repetitions of granny tosses
  • Three repetitions of shotput throws (per arm)

Mahomes also heads out on the track to maintain his speed and agility ready for the biggest games like the Super Bowl:

  • Three repetitions of 30-second deadlifts
  • Five repetitions of cable push pulls
