In the age of social media, you can’t spend 10 minutes on Facebook or Instagram without stumbling across a post telling you what to do with your life. “You are what you believe.” “Have faith, and all shall be rewarded.” Those and a million other random quotes keep crossing your path, and for the most part, they seem like something out of some self-development book that just doesn’t mean much when it comes to real life. Yet, there is some truth in these words, and perhaps what’s standing between you and what you want out of life is you. Maybe, just maybe, the right mindset is what you need to become successful in life.

Start

It’s quite often that the one thing you need to reach success is that little push to get started. New opportunities cross your path more often than you’d like to acknowledge, and there’s always a new door being opened with each passing day. Yet, you’ll always find a reason not to start. Your mind can give you a hundred logical explanations for why you shouldn’t take that first step and try. Maybe you’ll fail, or this just isn’t for you. Perhaps you’re doing this for the wrong reasons. You could give yourself hundreds of reasons to stay where you are and not start, but you only need one to get moving. Always put yourself in the right mindset to find that one reason, and whenever any opportunity of any kind presents itself, say yes, and start. You never know where the road might take you.

Take the good, and forget the bad

Whether you have started doing something already or are still contemplating it, truth is, it can be very easy to get lost in your negative thoughts. Past failures start resurfacing, and you’re often reminded of the times where you didn’t succeed and the times things just went bad. It’s easy to get out of that hole, though. All you need to do is think of the good times. Start remembering the positives. Forget about all those times you failed, and remember when you succeeded. When you put yourself in that mindset of only remembering the positives and taking the good, you’ll find that it becomes much easier to move forward and grow. And in time, success will come your way because you didn’t linger much on your shortcomings.

Grow

One of the most important angles to having the right mindset is always focusing on growth. That way you can start focusing on your journey rather than the destination. It’s about the small things you’ve learned along the way, and the subtle changes you go through on your path to success. That way, you won’t be so driven by the need to succeed that you’ll ignore the present. You’ll find that you’re open to new experiences and you’ll always be ready to learn, because that’s how you improve and grow until you achieve your goals and become successful.

Persist

As mentioned earlier, the mind has its way of making you see the bad. Halfway through your journey, you’ll want to quit, because it will get hard. If you’re not in the right mindset, you may end up quitting and wasting what is definitely a good opportunity. If you’re trying to become a medical assistant, for instance, you’ll find that it is a long journey, especially for someone without the right credentials. But if you keep at it, and you did your best to know how to become a medical assistant, you’ll find that the journey can be rewarding, and you might be able to find work that will give you the chance to learn on the job rather than having to get certifications before you start working. It’s this kind of persistence that will lead you where you want to go.

Self-acceptance

You can’t possibly hope to get into the right mindset without having self-acceptance. You need to understand and accept who you are as a person, and you have to come to terms with the fact that it is fine to be imperfect. You don’t need to be the best at everything you do, and it’s acceptable to have shortcomings. But you need to differentiate between accepting yourself as a person and working on your weaknesses, because the two go side by side together. Yes, you are aware of the fact that you have problems, but you’re constantly trying to work on them to become a better person and grow.

Once you’ve managed to accept yourself, you’ll start having something far more important, which is belief. If you start believing in yourself and in your own abilities, the sky truly is the limit for what you can achieve, and there’s nothing to stop you from going out there and pursuing your dreams. If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ll find that it’s rather impossible to achieve success with such a mindset, and you’ll always bring yourself down.

Embrace your failures

As mentioned earlier, there are going to be times where you will want to quit and drop everything and run. You will fail, and you should not only accept that truth, but also embrace it. Failure can be a very important teacher, and once you realize that, you’ll start turning each shortcoming and every bump in your journey into a lesson that will eventually help you succeed. In fact, all the great and most successful individuals throughout history have repeatedly failed, and they always claim that is why they eventually succeeded. There’s a saying, “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,” and that is one mindset that can change your life once you get used to it.

It definitely isn’t easy to get into the right mindset that can lead you to success, and you’ll always have trouble doing so at first. But the key is persistence, and if you keep at it long enough, you’ll find that you automatically process success and failure in a way that will push you forward. It’s also very important that you surround yourself with a great support system, it can be your circle of friends or family. These people will always be there for you, pushing you forward and helping you become a better version of yourself.
