If you experience chronic shoulder pain, you may have either been suggested to see a chiropractor or at the very least thought about it in your own time. Many doctors recommended seeking professional chiropractors, as they can help not only treat shoulder pain but help you to determine and eliminate the underlying cause of common shoulder problems.

Your shoulder is a vital part of your body, and any misalignment due to an injury can cause it to become out of sync with your neck, spine, and body, causing pain or discomfort when doing many daily movements and tasks. When you see an experienced Vancouver chiropractor, they will help work to help get your musculoskeletal system in sync again.

But how does this work, you may ask? Here is how chiropractic care can help heal shoulder pain.

Common Shoulder Problems

There are multiple reasons that shoulders can start hurting. Common types of shoulder issues include:

Bursitis

Bursitis is a condition that can occur in several areas of the body. In the shoulder, bursitis is usually located between the tip of the shoulder and the top of the arm. This is usually indicated by redness and swelling in that area. This condition occurs when a fluid-filled sac, known as the bursa, becomes swollen from friction and irritation from bones pinching together. This is usually caused by overusing the shoulders.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis can cause inflammation both around the bicep tendons as well as your rotator cuffs. This is usually caused due to the tendons becoming pinched. This is a common type of ailment from repetitive movements involving the shoulder above the head and thus are very common among those who play baseball, volleyball, tennis, swimmers or those who lift weights often.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder is a condition that causes both stiffness as well as pain within your shoulder joints. This condition usually worsens over time in several stages. Firstly, the movement of the shoulder causes pain, and range becomes limited. This later progresses into stiffness, where pain may be lesser, but the range of motion worsens. After one to three years, this condition usually resolves itself.

Dislocated Shoulder

As the shoulder is such a high mobility point on the body, this, unfortunately, makes it very susceptible to dislocation. A dislocated shoulder is a common shoulder problem refering to an injury that occurs to the upper arm, which then causes the bone to pop out of the shoulder blade.

How a Chiropractor Can Help

As many types of shoulder pains are related to the inflammation or irritation of the tendons, nerves, muscles, or ligaments in the area; chiropractic care is often very successful in helping to treat many of these common shoulder problems. Chiropractors are trained experts to help determine the “trigger” points that cause us pain. For example, in some cases, your chiropractor may apply pressure with a ball and have you rotate your arm, causing the ball to move and massage deep into the muscles.

If you feel you are suffering from any of the above conditions, consider seeking out a chiropractor to help!
