Canadian athletes have to ensure they get themselves in great shape ahead of  respective events in their sport, but it is also vital they maintain that fitness across the year.

We have taken a look at three Canadian sports stars and how different their training regimes are for the sport they play.

Jean Pascal

Boxer Jean Pascal has had a fantastic career since he turned professional in 2005. At the age of 37, he continues to have a lot of success.

The WBA (Regular) light-heavyweight champion had two excellent wins in the ring in 2019. The Canadian athletes defeated Marcus Brown in New York in August, while later that year, he retained his belt against the very capable Badou Jack.

As a boxer, Pascal will go through a very intense training campaign ahead of his fights. A lot of work will be inside the ring along with his trainer who will work the pads.

Boxers have to remain at a certain weight for their fights, however, they must not lose muscle otherwise their punches will be weaker. Pascal will, therefore, use heavy dumbbells, kettlebells and free weights in his training to lose body fat but continue to build muscle.

Alphonso Davies

Canadian international football player Alphonso Davies has had a breakthrough year in his sport. He is considered to be one of the most exciting full backs in the world.

The Bayern Munich defender helped his side win the Bundesliga in Germany last season and his side have odds of 4/25 to defend the title next year on Funbet. Davies is now a regular in their starting XI so he will play a crucial role as they aim for their ninth straight championship in 2021.

Bayern are one of the most exciting teams in Europe right now so it is easy to see why they are so short in the betting for the crown in the 2020/21 campaign. The biggest rivals to Davies and his teammates are Dortmund who have odds of 6/1 in the outright market.

Davies will train on a daily basis with his teammates during the football season at their training complex. This will involve drills with the ball, running and weight sessions in the gym. A balance of the three ensures he is in optimum shape to compete on the football pitch.

During the off-season, the responsibility will be on Davies to maintain his fitness. He is likely to do a lot of road running and gym work so that when he does return to training, the intensity of the work is not much of a shock on the body.

Milos Raonic

Tennis player Milos Raonic has won eight career titles and has been as high as number three in the world rankings.

The Canadian athletes has to ensure he is in the best physical shape all year round as the ATP Tour is full of tournaments across the 12-month calendar.

Tennis players can be on the court in some matches for up to five hours. Raonic needs to prepare for those kinds of match matches so he will spend hours on the practice court hitting balls with his coaches.

Raonic will have a training plan which involves a lot of cardiovascular work. This will have a balance of some running, cycling and possibly rowing on there.

A lot of admiration has to go to all three of the above athletes. Next time they are in action, you will be able to appreciate everything they have gone through to get into the condition they are in.
