From the small town of Slave Lake to international boxing rings, Alexas Kubicki, known as the “Iron Lady,” is a name making waves in the world of professional boxing. A proud Polish-Canadian, Alexas balances her impressive athletic career with pursuing a Political Science degree, showcasing her commitment to both mental and physical excellence.
Early Beginnings
Alexas’ story starts with a strong family foundation. Her parents, who immigrated to Canada from Poland, instilled in her and her sister the values of hard work and education. Growing up, she embraced sports early, lacing up hockey skates at the age of three and later trying her hand at various other athletic pursuits.
Her introduction to boxing came almost by chance. After a hockey practice, Alexas asked her father to check out the boxing gym next to the arena. A single session was all it took to spark a passion. “I started going every day and fell in love with the sport,” she recalls. Her father’s love for boxing, evident in their shared moments watching fights, deepened her interest.
Dominating the Ring
Alexas’ journey in the sport has been nothing short of extraordinary. During her amateur career, she fought an impressive 101 matches, losing only seven, and claimed the 2020 Youth European Champion title. Two years into her professional career, she already boasts NABF, WBC Youth, and WIBA titles and holds top rankings across multiple boxing organizations, including #4 by the IBF and WBA.
Inspiration and Individuality
Unlike many athletes who idolize specific figures, Alexas draws inspiration differently. “Professional boxing is about who we are as individuals,” she explains. “I observe top athletes, adopt what fits my style, and focus on my own development.” Her ultimate role models, however, are her parents. Their unwavering support and belief in her potential fuel her journey.
Life as a Professional Boxer
Balancing the demands of professional boxing with her education is no easy feat. When not training for a fight, Alexas maintains a lighter physical routine while focusing on mental preparation. Fight camp, however, takes her regimen to the next level:
Monday to Friday:
- 6:30 a.m.: 8 km run or sprints
- 10:00 a.m.: Strength and conditioning
- 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Boxing training
- Evening sparring sessions twice weekly
Saturday: Rest day
Sunday: Pool recovery sessions
Goals and Vision
Alexas has her sights set high. Her short-term goal is to become the undisputed world champion in the flyweight division, unifying all titles. Long-term, she dreams of capturing titles across multiple weight classes and becoming a global ambassador for the sport. Outside the ring, she aims to carve out a successful professional career, demonstrating the versatility of athletes beyond their sport.
Advocating for Women’s Sports
For Alexas, the growing recognition of women’s sports is both overdue and encouraging. She notes that while North America has lagged in acknowledging female athletes, other parts of the world, especially Europe, have long celebrated women in sports. She credits her father’s wisdom: “Women are phenomenal athletes, great human beings, and the absolute best of everything.”
The Future of the “Iron Lady”
Alexas Kubicki is not just a rising star; she’s a force reshaping the narrative around women in boxing. Her dedication, ambition, and humility make her a role model for aspiring athletes everywhere. Whether she’s studying for exams, training for a championship bout at Panther Gym, or representing her sport on a global stage, Alexas embodies the true spirit of the Iron Lady.
As she continues to climb the ranks, one thing is certain: Alexas Kubicki’s story is far from finished.
